F.A.Q and Issues I was disappointed the Sammamish Review did not release the story about the numerous violations of the Public and Open Meetings Act by our City Council Members until the day after the election. I serve on two boards for King County and would never violate this act or my ethics. The Citizens of the State of Washington voted the Pubic and Open Meetings Act into place for open and honest government. Once again the City Council forgot they are not above the law. Yes, anyone who wishes to file a lawsuit would win. The lawsuit would result in several contracts and purchases, which took place over email being null and void. It does call into question the integrity of those involved in violating the act. The issues are still the same and City Council still does not listen and have their own "Vision" not the "Vision of the Citizens". Here were my issues and still are our issues.
· Commute times and road conditions must be improved. Spending $45 million on a 12-year East Lake Sammamish Parkway project that does not improve traffic congestion or account for projected growth will not work! I will ensure our taxes are spent in the right places to alleviate congestion despite predicted growth.
· I support strong public safety agencies and am proud of Sammamish’s Police and Fire Departments. I will fight to fully fund their needs!
· Cost overruns are hurting our city. Over $54 million in reserve funds 8-years ago goes into the red in about 5-years. We must control spending to stay in line with growth. With my leadership, our city will run like a successful business. I will create a realistic, long-term fiscal plan to protect the priorities of our community.
· Our planned town center creates traffic and environmental issues that need to be better addressed. Our infrastructure is failing and emergency services need to grow with our city. I will develop a strategic plan to improve responsiveness to our citizens, especially to protect and aid our elderly.
· I will make certain the city has the necessary services and programs in place to respond to emergencies, especially in order to protect and to help our elderly, physically disabled, and citizens with special needs.
· I will fight to keep spending in line with city growth so our property taxes will not have to be raised.
· I will make sure that proper infrastructure comes with any new development that fits our community.
· I will create a realistic, long-term fiscal plan to protect the diverse priorities of the Plateau community, including safe neighborhoods, well-maintained parks and trails, recreational facilities and programs, along with a vibrant business district.
A Record of Service… · I was raised to believe that selfless service to others would be its own reward. I still believe that!
· An honorable and distinguished career in the U.S. Air Force, earning numerous decorations for outstanding service, management and leadership --Meritorious Service Medal, medals for Commendation, Achievement, Good Conduct and the Humanitarian Service Medal
· Elected representative to the King County Veterans’ Program Advisory Board
· Chairman of the Resource Management and Evaluation Committee, King County Veterans Citizen Levy Oversight Board
· Married to Carma for 13 years, with 4 children and 6 grandchildren between us
· Small business owner and a general contractor serving the Sammamish Plateau
· Commander for the Washington State Disabled American Veterans
What our local Elected Officials and Business Owners who Endorse Stan are saying; “I appointed Stan as my representative to the King County Veterans Citizen Oversight Board because Stan makes things happen! He holds King County accountable with the taxpayer’s money.” Hon. Kathy Lambert, King County Council
“Cheerful service to others is Stan’s motto. His ability to listen and make sound decisions is reflected in every facet of his life.” Hon. Jay Rodne, State Representative
“I have successfully worked with Stan on state-wide Veterans issues. He consistently demonstrates leadership abilities and makes sound decisions.” Hon. Glenn Anderson, State Representative
“As a small business owner, Stan’s service and attention to detail always result in the highest quality product possible.” Scott Dixon, Owner, Sleep 101 “Stan’s thoughtful advice on regional matters – such as services to low-income residents and assistance to the elderly – have made him a respected, sought after advisor.” Hon. Reagan Dunn, King County Council Q: Why is the City of Sammamish Spending over $45 million on East Lake Sammamish Parkway and doing nothing to increase capacity? A: I have problems understanding how we can spend over $45 million on this project and not increase capacity. Our taxes should be spent on projects that will improve our infrastructure. I say if you are spending our money to improve East Lake Sammamish the improvement should be better than a nice to look at divider with flowers and a partial center turn lane as I am still stuck in traffic.
Q. As a Sammamish Resident, what can I do to be heard? A. So many times I read in the local newspaper that the elected officials of Sammamish do not listen to my ideas or me. I have developed an Idea Generator as a place where we can post our ideas for the City of Sammamish. We can correct problems with solutions aided by the input of the Citizens. Some of the elected members of the Sammamish City Council have forgotten that we are a government of the people and by the people. Our ideas count and must be heard. Please give me your input on how we can improve the city, any problems you have with the city and suggested solutions. Use my Idea Generator at my blog spot.
Q. I noticed the Municipal League of King County rated you as a Good and your opponent as Very Good. Does that bother you at all? A. No it does not bother me and here is why. The Municipal League of King County provides a wonderful service to the citizens of King County. The Municipal League of King County is a voluntary civic organization dedicated to effective and responsive government. League members are people like you, interested in maintaining good government and willing to get involved. As part of their volunteer duties they serve on Candidate Evaluation Committees. Candidate evaluations range from Unqualified to Outstanding. As you said I was rated as a Good and my opponent was rated as Very Good. I noticed there were several elected officials in King County who were rated Outstanding. After seeing that, I was concerned as were several people I spoke with that my opponent has served on the Sammamish City Council for years and is only rated as Very Good. This was the only part that bothered me. I will do everything in my power to raise my rating to Outstanding in my job Serving Our Community, when I am Elected to the Sammamish City Council. Still Very Good is nice rating, just not where I want to be after years of making decisions with your tax dollars. You can review my 2007 Candidate Questionnaire at the Municipal League Website on my Links page or by clicking HERE.
